This website

The site uses no cookies, neither for profiling nor for analytics, and loads nothing from third parties: fonts and images are hosted with the site.

In your browser storage (localStorage) we only keep the language you chose and the fact that you closed the cookie notice. This is technical data, needed for the site to work, and it stays on your device.

Like any web server, the server hosting the site logs the IP address and browser of visitors for security reasons. The hosting provider keeps these logs only as long as necessary.

The app without an account

Without an account the app sends no personal data to our servers. GPS position is used only on the phone, only while the app is open, to show you on the map and work out speed, heading and alerts. The app does not use location in the background and contains no advertising or analytics tools.

The app with an account (optional)

Account data: email and password, the latter stored only in encrypted form.

Your boat: name, type and, if you enter them, registration and phone number. Only you and approved authorities (for example the lake police) can see them.

Shared position: only while the app is open, about every 15 seconds. Other users only see the boat's silhouette, type and direction, with no name or contact. The position expires after 10 minutes and is then deleted automatically; the last known position stays linked to your boat until you delete the account.

Hazard reports: type and position, visible to registered users, expire after 6 hours.

Role requests (authority or rental): organisation, name, email and phone, used only for verification.

Legal bases

Account, boat, shared position and reports: performance of the service you asked for by registering (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

Visibility to approved authorities and security of the service: legitimate interest in safe navigation and the protection of people (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Rentals and company fleets: for the boats of a rental or a company, the company is the controller; Lago processes that data on its behalf as a processor (Art. 28 GDPR).

Where the data is and who processes it

App data is stored on Amazon Web Services in the Zurich region (Switzerland), encrypted in transit and at rest. The European Union recognises Switzerland as providing an adequate level of protection.

Maps are downloaded from OpenFreeMap (OpenStreetMap data) and swisstopo: these services receive the device's IP address and the map area requested, not your GPS position.

Ferry tickets are bought on the official website of Società Navigazione del Lago di Lugano, opened inside the app: what you enter there goes to SNL, an independent controller, and its payment providers. Lago does not receive it.

Your rights

You can ask for access, rectification, erasure, restriction and portability of your data, and object to processing based on legitimate interest, by writing to business@raul.it. We reply within 30 days.

You can delete your account at any time in the app (Menu, Account, Delete account): account, boat and positions are deleted immediately.

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority: in Italy the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), or the authority of your EU country.

Children

You can create an account if you are at least 16. Everyone can use the app without an account.

Changes

If we change this notice we update the date at the top. For important changes we also let you know in the app.
